Cantare Con Vivo is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 choral music organization founded in 1987 by David Morales, its current Artistic Director. Today Cantare
invests its resources into two adult choirs, the 110-voice symphonic Chorale, and the 24-voice Chamber Ensemble. These groups are the finest of their kind in the
East Bay, known through the community for their quality of their singing, diverse repertoire, and their ability to passionately connect to their listeners.
In addition, Cantare also has a comprehensive and growing Music
Education and Outreach program which provides weekly music classes for
over 1000 children from Oakland’s inner city, both in-school and
after-school. We partner with four Oakland elementary schools –
Lincoln, Cleveland, Glenview, and Melrose Leadership Academy – to
offer choral music education during the school day to kindergarten
through third grade students.We have two after-school choirs for
elementary students and a 30-voice treble honor choir for 6th-10th
graders bringing together students from 10 different Oakland schools.
We also offer special programs: Music of California History, Music of
the Andes, African American Folk Music, a Summer Music Camp, and
coming soon, a Young Men’s Choir. Unique to Cantare’s mission – all
programs for children and youth are 100% free of charge.
