Shine with Music Stars
Cantare’s Music Stars after-school program provides upper elementary students, grades three to five, a platform to explore the excitement of singing in a choir. This tuition-free program also offers emerging vocalists the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of choral singing and music theory under the direction of our seasoned teaching artists.
Emphasis is placed on teamwork to foster a safe, compassionate community where all voices are heard and respected. Modifications are made to ensure children with special needs have equal access at practice and on the stage.
At school and community events, our after-school choirs serve as a voice in their neighborhoods, performing a diverse repertoire that celebrates multiculturalism.
Fifth grade singers from our Music Stars choirs and 5-8 graders from the community are selected to join the Youth Honor Choir, which comes together with Nova and Cantare’s adult choirs in concert each December and May.
Each year, our choirs collaborate for the Pride & Joy concert in November and the Spring Children’s Choirs in May, designed to break down geographic and cultural barriers within Oakland and create bonds through a shared passion for singing. Cantare covers all costs associated with concert performances.
Join Cantare's after-school choirs from throughout Oakland for the first concert of the school year! Sing along, or just listen and fill your spirit with pride and joy at this free community concert!
Weekly rehearsals are held on-site at our partner schools; times vary by school site
