SPOTLIGHT

Meet Cantare Volunteer Melody Herder-Jimison

Melody Herder-Jimison, who sings in the Cantare Adult Choir and Ensemble, is a veteran volunteer with our Music Education Program at Lincoln Elementary School in Oakland.

I like seeing the kids perform at concerts and watching them find the joy in music. I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment,” says Melody. “My parents loved singing so much that they named me Melody,” she explains. “I lost my father when I was four; singing in community helped me feel connected and not so alone. I’m grateful for that. As a child, I was blessed to have a rich arts experience. It’s given me a profound sense of the world and I want to offer that same experience to our youth.
