Open Position: Spanish Music Teacher / Profesor de música

Cantare seeks to foster a diverse community of compassion and understanding across generational, cultural, and economic boundaries, through the beauty and power of choral music. Cantare Classroom Music Education Program provides tuition-free choral music residencies to over 3,000 students weekly in Oakland underserved schools.

Cantare is seeking a dynamic, experienced music teacher to join our team of professional Teaching Artists and teach our Spanish after-school music program for Newcomer/English Language Learner students and families. This program seeks to help participants take pride in their native language, build English proficiency, and deepen their connection to the school community.

Parents are encouraged to attend and participate in the lesson. Through songs and games in their native language, the adults strengthen connections with their children and with other newcomer families. Cantare will schedule with school staff to have staff attend a few lessons during the residency, so the families have another opportunity to become familiar with the resources available at the school and parent committees.
