Open Position: Program Assistant, Children’s & Youth Programs
Cantare is a non-profit organization founded in 1987 and located in Oakland. Cantare is dedicated to sharing the power and beauty of choral music through adult choirs, youth education programs, after school choirs and concert performances. Its innovative and inclusive in-school music education classes and after-school choirs reach over 2,500 under-resourced Oakland children annually who lack access to these arts. Job Title: Program Assistant: Children’s and Youth Music Program
Location: Hybrid position, predominantly offsite, occasional onsite support.
Position Type: part-time, irregular weekly hours, (352 hours annually), that will average approximately 8-weekly hours over 44 weeks.
Starting Date: August 12, 2024.
Coordinate with: Director of Children’s and Youth Choirs.
Job Summary:
The Program Assistant for Cantare’s Children’s and Youth Music Program will provide office and operational support for the artistic staff of this branch of Cantare. This includes, but is not limited to:
Project management of semi-annual combined choir concerts, securing buses, ordering snacks/food, monitoring rehearsal venue details, providing off-stage oversight.
Securing and overseeing volunteers (parents and Cantare singers) for various events as needed.
Providing management and support for Nova concerts and special events.
Creating and coordinating distribution of materials as requested, including name tags, permission slips, music folders, etc., for circulation to student singers and/or families.
Maintaining an updated Google calendar for each after-school choir.
Providing office and logistical support related to summer camp (June), including room rental, registration, ordering materials, snacks, food, buses, schedule changes, etc.
Attend quarterly Education and Outreach Committee meetings (via Zoom) and record minutes
Collect demographic online data from the schools relating to the students we serve.
Compile mid-year and year-end survey data from partner schools and TA’s.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Proficiency in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).
Proficiency in Project management oversight.
Gathering and recording data
Willingness to take on various appropriate tasks as they arise.
Salary:
$25/hr. A maximum total of 352 hours per fiscal year, distributed over a 44-week period between August 1 (beginning of school term) and June 15 (close of summer camp).
